When I bought a Zoom R16 recently, I intended to use it for 'mobile' recording; I usually use a Presonus Firestudio as my audio interface for my DAW (when it works).
However, I have had problems with the Firestudio that the tech. folks at Presonus cannot figure out, and I have been thinking about using the R16 as my audio interface.
My question is, in addition to recording on the R16, will I be able to plug my monitors into the R16's L & R outputs, and be able monitor the recording and playback of tracks in my DAW (GarageBand 11)? In other words, will the USB both send (recording) information to the computer, and return live and recorded playback?
Thanks,
GVDV.
I am currently trying to get my head round Logic Pro X (have used adobe audition previously, but Logic seems better suited to what I want to do etc). I'm trying to get Logic Pro X to record through the r16, should be simple. Using the current setup (1 mic plugged into the R16 and it on USB mode) I am able to record audio on audition, yet when I try with Logic, despite it saying that both audio input and output are the R16, and on the Zoom itself it is showing audio, the bar showing audio levels on Logic shows nothing and when recording it remains as silence. I would like to warn that I am a complete novice, so it may be something really simple I've missed. But if anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

- Thanks for making this review. I still use my old iMic from Griffin for my electric guitar. And I use my Zoom H2 as USB microphone. My (also old) midi keyboard (with 5-pole DIN connector) is connected through my (.) GarageBand iControl, which has old MIDI in and USB out. This combination even works on my (new!!!) iPad.
Thank you 🙂
